Top 10 Greatest Indian ODI Batsmen of All Time

As the famous and the able Indian batting line-up are once again delivering its goodies , we will be looking at the Indian batsmen who made it to the top in the limited version of the game. These are the top ten Indian batsmen who made India proud in One Day Internationals since India played its first ODI in 1974 at Headingley against England.

    10Suresh Raina

Known as “Sanu”, Raina was born in 1986 in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh and made his ODI debut in 2005 at Dambulla, against Sri Lanka. This Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions star has made India proud in numerous occasions.

He is a Left-handed middle order batsman who has scored 5568 runs in 223 ODIs to this date at an average of 35.46, with 5 tons and 36 fifties to his name, and his highest score in ODIs is 116 not out against Bangladesh. Raina has come to the rescue in many crucial matches where India has struggled with its top order. His first ODI fifty was one such occasion where he saw India home after struggling at 92/5 chasing 227 against England at home. Raina scored a brilliant 81 of 89 balls and announced his ODI arrival in grand style. Another important knock was the little cameo he played against arch rivals Pakistan in the high pressure 2011 World Cup Semi Finals. He scored a sensible 36 and took India to a safe total of 260 in a closely fought match.

Raina comes in handy not only as a middle order batsman but also as a part time bowler who bowls that occasional over or two. Most of the time, he has produced results, especially by breaking important partnerships and making the captain happy. Also, he is an agile fielder in and out of the circle and probably the best in the current Indian outfit. Although currently out of the Indian ODI squad, many believe that his best innings and performance for India is yet to come.

Trivia – Raina is the only player to score 350 plus runs in every IPL

    1. Kohli can’t be so low in ranking; Rahul Dravid so up is also doubtful; maybe the stats went his favor. Inclusion of Raina also raises eyebrow. Good that Azharuddin has been remembered and included. Considering the cricket we have seen: the ranking should be:
      1. Kohli, 2. Sachin, 3. Azharuddin, 4. Sourav, 5. Yuvraj, 6. Dhoni. 7. Dravid.
